Indego Welcomes 2016 Ambassador Cohort!

Ambassador Malcolm Kenyatta

The Better Bike Share Partnership (BBSP) is an effort led by the City of Philadelphia that works to ensure that Indego is accessible to all Philadelphians. The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia is a non-profit advocacy and education organization working as part of the Better Bike Share Partnership to support bike share and biking education. Better Bike Share Partnership is funded by the JPB Foundation.

In 2015, we were fortunate to have 19 Indego Community Ambassadors working with us on bike share outreach. For example, one of our 2015 Ambassadors was Keola Harrington — who you probably recognize from the 2015 Faces of Indego campaign.

In the past few weeks, Indego and the Bicycle Coalition have trained 14 new Indego Community Ambassadors for the 2016 season. These Ambassadors will work to build relationships with community members and introduce them to Indego by hosting bike safety classes, community rides and other events. On the first day of training, the Ambassadors toured the Indego warehouse, learned about how Indego works, tested out the bikes, and discussed ideas for community engagement.

When asked why she got involved, Ella Best of South Philadelphia said “I am the founder of a community organization called “Don’t Shoot… I Want a Future”. I decided to be involved with the 2016 Indego Community Ambassador Program because it was a chance for me to work with a company that also cares about and works to benefit my community.”

DeWayne Drummond of Mantua is getting ready to organize some community events this season and said, “Sometimes in the course of life’s journey, the roads might be rough, with gridlocks and speed bumps. But at the end of the day stay in your lane and let’s ride!”

Malcolm Kenyatta, aka “North Philly’s Biggest Fan,” wrote on his Instagram, “I’ve never been an avid biker, but I’m thrilled to hop on and spread the word to ensure more Philadelphians take advantage of this program!”

We are fortunate to bring in a diverse group of dedicated and involved community leaders from North, West and South Philadelphia. We will be featuring each of them and their work in more detail over the season – stay tuned!
