SUMMARY:Tai Chi + Sound Healing Meditation with Eunmi Chang
DESCRIPTION:From their event page: \nWelcome the start of summer by joining Fairmount Park Conservancy and Eunmi Chang from Eunmi’s Sound Healing & Yoga on Saturday\, September 7 from 9:00-10:15 AM for a one-of-a-kind immersive experience in West Fairmount Park. \nWe’ll start out by learning and moving through a series of tai chi exercises. Tai chi combines slow\, focused movements and deep breathing\, allowing us to tap into a peaceful space before transitioning into a sound healing meditation. During the 45-minute sound healing meditation\, Eunmi will utilize singing bowls and other instruments to guide us into a deep meditative state. Manage your stress\, improve your well-being\, and literally find your grounding outside in the park. \nWhat is a Sound Bath? Essentially\, a sound bath is a meditation class with ambient sound played by the instructor that aims to guide you into a deeper meditative state. Sound baths use singing bowls and other traditional instruments to play repetitive notes at different frequencies to help bring your focus away from your obsessive thoughts. Think of it as an improvised meditative “concert” in a unique setting. \nINSTRUCTOR BIO: Eunmi Chang has dedicated herself to the art of sound healing and yoga. She is a 250 HR-certified sound mediation practitioner as well as a 500 HR-certified yoga teacher. She specializes particularly in Tibetan singing bowls and crystal bowls as well as combining her sound therapy with yoga asanas/poses\, breath work\, meditation\, chakra and aura cleansing. Her passion is to create sound vibrations that help people feel relaxed and whole. When she plays her healing bowls\, the experience can be both calming and wondrous. To date\, she has led over 170 sound healing meditation and yoga workshops/events and has been featured in Philly Magazine.

SUMMARY:Parkside Past\, Parkside Present: Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:From their event page:  \nJoin the Fairmount Park Conservancy and Michael Burch (science educator\, community organizer\, and founder of the Parkside Journal) for a 2.5-mile walking tour of the Parkside neighborhood. \nParkside. The name says it all – it’s the neighborhood beside West Fairmount Park. Similarly to Strawberry Mansion on the other side of the Schuylkill\, Parkside is where the city grid meets the greenspace\, buffered by a boulevard of grand homes facing the park. Much of the Parkside neighborhood was built during the 1876 Centennial Exhibition. Originally populated by German-Americans and Jewish immigrants of Russian descent\, after World War II\, the Great Migration coupled with ‘white flight’ transformed Parkside into a predominantly African-American neighborhood\, which it remains to this day. In 1983\, community organizers had the neighborhood listed on the National Register of Historic Places because of its cultural legacy and many fine examples of Victorian architecture. \nTour highlights include:\n-Centennial Exposition model in Please Touch Museum\n-Smith Memorial Arch\n-Parkside Apartments (when built it was one of the tallest apartment buildings in the city)\n-Christ Community Baptist Church (built from an old synagogue)\n-Lansdowne Apartment Building (built in 1897)\n-Centennial Commons\n-Philadelphia Stars Negro League Memorial Park and mural
