SUMMARY:Trolley Trail Run + Walk
DESCRIPTION:From their event page: \nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy\, Men’s Night Run Club\, and We Walk PHL for a 4.5-mile trail run or a two-mile walk along West Fairmount Park’s historic Trolley Trail. Whether you’re training for an upcoming race\, looking to connect with other runners/walkers\, or just want to get to know the trail system better\, this run series provides the perfect opportunity. \nTrail runs/walks will be led by a Fairmount Park Conservancy staff person\, in partnership with local run club leaders (see schedule below). Runners and walkers will start at the same spot and then take separate looped routes\, finishing at the starting point at roughly the same time. At a few points along the route\, we’ll stop and talk about the past and present of the Trolley Trail\, which roughly follows the route of the old Fairmount Park Trolley that operated from 1896-1946. \nImportant run information: We will try to stay together as a group for each run. In order to allow us to finish before sunset\, runners should be able to consistently run for 4.5 miles on trails. While this series is in partnership with local run clubs\, you do not need to be part of the run club to attend. \nImportant walk information: We will try to stay together as a group for the two-mile walk\, going at a moderate pace over a mixture of trails and sidewalks. The walk will NOT cover the whole Trolley Trail route. You do not need to be part of We Walk PHL to attend.

SUMMARY:Street Movies! West Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION:Join us outdoors at Pentridge Station for a curated night of local\, international\, and award-winning short films\, plus discussion and live performance! This event is presented in partnership with the Black Earth Urban Agriculture Hub. \nLive performance by Koof Ibi \nKoof Ibi is a versatile multi-instrumentalist based in the Philadelphia area. He is frequently seen performing alongside brass bands such as The West Philadelphia Orchestra on Broad Street\, as well as sharing stages with notable acts like Japanese Breakfast and Moor Mother during their local performances. With a breadth of experience across various musical genres prevalent in Philadelphia\, Koof seamlessly integrates these influences into his unique musical expression. In his solo endeavors\, Koof skillfully blends live instrumentation\, live-looping\, and effects to craft dynamic soundscapes\, inventive reinterpretations of familiar tunes\, and immersive musical experiences. \nFilm Program\nI Spoke to a Tomato Plant (USA / 2026 / 29 MIN)\nDir. Christian Hayden\nI Spoke to a Tomato Plant follows gardeners in the Mantua and Belmont area of Philadelphia as they share their experience of gardening and building relationships towards healing past traumas. Layered with a soundscape of Philadelphia musicians\, ISTATP is an ode to connection\, both plant and human\, as well as the capacity for change. \nPAPI STORE (USA / 2026 / 10 MIN)\nDir. Anthony M. Rivera\nPAPI STORE is a documentary series that traces the cultural and economic roots of the neighborhood corner store—from the colmado in the Dominican Republic to the “papi store” in Philadelphia. Through intimate interviews and immersive street-level footage\, the series honors immigrant business owners who built spaces of survival\, resilience\, and community within a capitalist landscape. These spaces serve as cultural anchors\, exploring how businesses sustain neighborhoods facing food deserts and affordability challenges. By connecting the Caribbean diaspora experience to urban America\, the series uplifts the legacy of the colmado as both a lifeline and a living archive of culture. \nWoven From Nature (USA / 2026 / 8 MIN)\nDir. Black Fiber & Textile Network (bftn)\nBlack Fiber & Textile Network’s short documentary is about Black farmers\, artists\, and businesses creating in reverence of the earth and each other. \nThe Seeds We Carry (USA / 2026 / 28 MIN)\nDir. Gabriele Paterson\nThe Seeds We Carry is a short documentary weaving intimate portraits of community farm stewards in Southwest Philadelphia. Through the rhythms of planting\, cooking\, and sharing food\, the protagonists reveal how everyday acts of care and resistance nurture belonging\, forge cross-cultural kinship\, and preserve a sense of home amid the pressures of displacement in a rapidly changing city.

SUMMARY:The Philadelphia Cycling Classic
DESCRIPTION:In peak Philly fashion\, the race begins on the French-inspired Benjamin Franklin Parkway\, follows the curves of the Schuylkill River\, and passes through Fairmount Park\, the nation’s largest urban park system. The course then enters the historic neighborhood of Manayunk. Cyclists travel through Main Street before turning onto the most iconic\, and by far the most challenging\, part of the course: the Manayunk Wall. This 17 percent-grade climb tests cyclists’ strength\, endurance\, and grit. \n\nLeaving Manayunk behind\, riders briefly enter Roxborough before the journey takes them back down to Kelly Drive. After a short traverse through Strawberry Mansion\, the peloton tackles Lemon Hill\, directly across from Boathouse Row\, an iconic city landmark. \n\nFinally\, the 14.4-mile loop brings competitors back to the Start/Finish on the Parkway before they head out once again! Spectators line the streets at every point along the circuit to cheer on these world-class professional cyclists.

SUMMARY:Street Movies! Norris Square
DESCRIPTION:Join us outdoors at Las Parcelas for a curated night of local\, international\, and award-winning short films\, plus discussion and live performance! This event is presented in partnership with the Norris Square Neighborhood Project. \nLive performance by Little Afrika and the Rumba Brothers\, 7:30-8:00pm. \nFilm Program\nReflexiones de KCAPA (USA / 2025 / 6 MIN) \nDir. Conrad Burgos and Jasir Jones\nKensington CAPA Digital Media students take their instructor on a short journey thru Latinx identity in Kensington\, and beyond. \nKCAPA MAGAZINE: Around Town (Episodes 1-2) (USA / 2026 / 6 MIN) \nDir. Conrad Burgos and Jasir Jones\nKensington CAPA students document life in their neighborhood’s community. Episode 1 is a visit to Garden Colobo to discuss the preservation of African and Puerto Rican traditions with founder and elder Iris Brown. Episode 2 is unveiling Vanessa Vega’s contribution to a mural on Susqeuhanna celebrating Tainia identity in Philadelphia\, at a community event hosted by CAICU and Mural Arts. \nscapeG.O.A.T. (USA / 2025 / 22 MIN)\nDir. Erika Lobati\nWhen an anxious overachiever takes the fall for a school-wide cyber scandal\, her best friends must decide to either exonerate her academic record or allow the tensions in their friend group to take hold. This high school comedy captures teen awkwardness\, loyal friendship\, and coming-of-age growth through a fresh perspective of children of diaspora. \nPortraits of Philly Rumba: Tony (USA / 2026 / 4 MIN)\nDir: Melissa Beatriz\n“Portraits of Philly Rumba” is a short portrait series that features African American and Latin American percussionists and cultural keepers who have played a role in preserving the culture of rumba percussion in the Philadelphia region. \nThe World Cup in Recife (Brazil / 2014 / 15 MIN) \nDir. Kleber Mendoniça Filho\nA major figure in international cinema documents what happens when the World Cup arrives in his hometown. Alternating between interviews with locals and tourists\, as well as his own commentary on the hubbub that takes over Recife once soccer teams start arriving\, Filho’s film offers a mosaic-like look at how the World Cup upturns local customs and infrastructure. This becomes evident in his decision to foreground the eviction of activists protesting the event and the use of government funds to sponsor the construction of new highways instead of public transport. \nLo Chan Lo Bassin (The chant of the waterway) (France / 2025 / 15 MIN) \nDir. Célia Berby Maillot\nOndine returns to Reunion Island after a long absence\, as her Grand-Pa is dying. While preparing to say goodbye\, she has a strange encounter in a waterway. This moment draws her into the memory of her island\, scarred by slavery and the wounds of the past.

This event is presented in partnership with Homies Helping Homies. \nFilm Program\nAsk A Punk (USA / 2025 / 15 MIN)\nDir. Kevin Contento\nIn the heart of Little Village\, a restless teen finds sanctuary in the noise and defiance of Chicago’s DIY punk scene. Mosh pits\, family tensions\, and generational shadows collide in this raw coming-of-age story—equal parts cathartic howl and heartfelt tribute to a neighborhood too often overlooked. SUMMARY:East Park Trails to Ales: Guided Hike + Drinks
DESCRIPTION:From their event page: \n\n\nJoin John Sigmund\, Fairmount Park Conservancy’s Director of Sponsorships and Partnerships\, for a 2.5 mile hiking tour to explore the history of brewing and beer gardens around East Fairmount Park. Naturally\, we’ll end the hike at a modern-day park beer garden – Parks on Tap at Lemon Hill! \nAs the name of the Brewerytown neighborhood that borders East Park indicates\, Philadelphia was a beer-brewing town. In fact\, in the late 19th century\, with over 30 breweries\, we were the brewing capital of America! Before the city created the park\, the banks of the Schuylkill River were valuable to emerging breweries for the harvesting and storage of ice and for the cold storage of lager beer in underground vaults. Also\, after acquiring several historic houses with the establishment of Fairmount Park\, the city sought ways to re-adapt them and the properties were leased as beer gardens enjoyed by a growing German population. The hike will discuss this and many other intoxicating aspects of beer history in Fairmount Park. \n\n\n\n\nPlease note\, this is NOT a loop hike! It’s a one-way hike beginning at Mount Pleasant Mansion and ending at Parks on Tap in Lemon Hill. We strongly suggest using Uber/Lyft\, public transit\, or Indego bike share to arrive at the starting point so you do not have to return for your vehicle/bike.\n\nStarting Location for August 27: Mount Pleasant Mansion (3800 Mt Pleasant Drive\, Philadelphia PA 19121)\nEnding location for August 27: Parks on Tap at Lemon Hill (1 Lemon Hill Drive\, Philadelphia PA 19130)\n\n\n\n\nInterested in learning about the history of West Fairmount Park? Join us for our West Park Trails to Ales Hike on August 13.

SUMMARY:Street Movies! Chinatown
DESCRIPTION:Join us outdoors at the Chinatown Community Park for a curated night of local\, international\, and award-winning short films\, plus discussion and live performance! This event is presented in partnership with Ginger Arts Center and PCDC. \nFilm Program\nUnder the Wave off Little Dragon (UK / 2025 / 14 MIN) \nDir. Luo Jian\nCaught between two worlds\, a Chinese girl growing up in a Welsh fishing village rejects her mother’s folklore\, until one magical encounter sheds a new light on everything she knows. \nSandcastles (Singapore\, USA / 2024 / 17 MIN)\nDir. Carin Leong\nAs Singapore imports sand for urban expansion\, a ghost town bearing its name lies buried underneath sand on the other side of the world. Sandcastles parallels two Singapores: one in Michigan where mass deforestation in the 1800s stirred surrounding sand dunes to swallow it whole\, while its namesake in the East emerged from sand by reclaiming what was once only marshland and water. Through a poetic and mythological approach\, the ephemeral nature of sand underscores humankind’s fraught relationship with the element: how can we trust the very ground we walk on when it’s built with and destroyed by nothing more than sand? \nFace to Face: It’s Not What You Think (USA / 1996 / 17 MIN)\nDir. Asian Americans United & Scribe Video Center\nProduced by the Asian Americans United youth group as part of Scribe’s Community Visions program in 1996\, this delightful and dynamic tape explores issues of cultural identity\, school and gang culture\, friends\, parents\, love\, and poetry.
