Most of the year\, nature cloaks these hidden treasures in dense growth\, but the bare woods of the winter provide the perfect time to go off the beaten path. \nIf you’re fascinated by Philly history and discovering hidden treasures of park past\, this hike is not to be missed! \nThis is the event page for the March 15 East Park hike; however\, there will also be a West Park hike on March 29 (more info here). SUMMARY:Park after Dark: Moonwalk + Stargazing Party
DESCRIPTION:From their event page:  \nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy and astronomer/educator Buddy Muhler for a one-mile guided moonwalk and telescope observation.  \nWe’ll start by using the moonlight to guide us on a short hike along the Lemon Hill Rim Trail – a wooded trail that runs high above Kelly Drive and offers views of the Schuylkill River below. Learn a little about the history of the area as well as the nocturnal animals that call the forest home. \nNext\, we’ll turn our attention to the sky with a guided moon and planet/star observation\, depending on the month. Novice and experienced astronomers alike will be given insights and tips by experienced instructor Buddy Muhler. Each attendee will have the chance to travel close up to the moon’s surface by looking through Buddy’s high-powered telescope! Buddy will discuss the lunar cycles and point out interesting visible surface features such as dark gray mares (seas) and white reflective highlands. We’ll gaze at planets or stars and discuss other astronomical wonders of the night sky. \nIf you’re a lunar lunatic\, this is an evening not to miss!

During these closures\, pedestrians will be invited to stroll nearly seven blocks of car-free space while enjoying shopping\, dining and activities for all ages. CCD will provide ambient entertainment\, including acoustic musicians\, dancers and an appearance by the Easter Buny on Sunday\, April 20. Along the 1800 block of Walnut Street\, a kid-friendly zone will feature sidewalk chalk\, bubbles\, games and toys.
