Join Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia City Rowing for an Intro to Rowing class along the Schuylkill River on Saturday\, September 6. \nConnect with others in a beautiful setting and learn basic rowing techniques in a fun and easy-to-understand way. There will be two 2.5-hour timeslots (12-2:30 PM and 2:30-5 PM). Please only register for one timeslot so that we are able to maximize the number of people able to participate. Attendees should plan to be there at the start of their time slot as to not miss important information. \nParticipants must be 11 or older\, and minors must be accompanied by an adult. This is a special one-time event with limited space. Please only register if you plan to attend! No-shows and last-minute cancellations take away tickets from others so we ask that you please be mindful of this before registering.

DESCRIPTION:From their event page: \nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy and Troy Bynum of TB Wildlife Photography LLC for a two-mile guided birdwatching walk. We’ll hike along both the Belmont Plateau Cross Country Course and the historic Trolley Trail\, two excellent and tranquil spots to connect with nature. This time of year\, Philly’s green spaces are bustling with migrants as well as year-round species\, and Troy will guide our eyes and ears as we look and listen for birds in both the open meadows and forested areas of the trail. \nThis hike is part of our Second Saturday Guided Hike Series. These hikes occur from 10 AM–12 PM on the second Saturday of every month (May–November). All of these hikes depart from Belmont Plateau in West Fairmount Park. Please see below for the full schedule.

SUMMARY:Parkside and Centennial District Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:From their event page: \nJoin the Fairmount Park Conservancy and Michael Burch (science educator\, community organizer\, and founder of the Parkside Journal) for a two-mile walking tour of the Parkside neighborhood. \nParkside. The name says it all – it’s the neighborhood beside West Fairmount Park. Similarly to Strawberry Mansion on the other side of the Schuylkill\, Parkside is where the city grid meets the greenspace\, buffered by a boulevard of grand homes facing the park. Much of the Parkside neighborhood was built during the 1876 Centennial Exhibition. Originally populated by German-Americans and Jewish immigrants of Russian descent\, after World War II\, the Great Migration coupled with ‘white flight’ transformed Parkside into a predominantly African-American neighborhood\, which it remains to this day. In 1983\, community organizers had the neighborhood listed on the National Register of Historic Places because of its cultural legacy and many fine examples of Victorian architecture.

SUMMARY:Mental Health Group Ride with MBKCares & Black Men Heal
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a group ride with My Brother’s Keeper Cares (MBKCares) and Black Men Heal\, two community-based nonprofits committed to mental health and healing. MBKCares\, based in Southwest Philadelphia\, supports youth and families impacted by mental health challenges\, trauma\, and suicide loss through education\, mentorship\, and creative expression. Black Men Heal is dedicated to providing mental health access\, education\, and advocacy for men of color\, with a mission to eliminate the stigma around therapy and support emotional wellness in the community. \nThe ride will be slow-paced ride beginning and ending at the Indego Station on N. 33rd St. and Reservoir Dr. in Strawberry Mansion. Together\, we’ll explore trails\, the historic mansions of East Fairmount Park\, and The Discovery Center. \nThis ride is designed to reduce stress\, build connections\, and promote mental wellness in a supportive and welcoming space. Come join us\, connect with like-minded people\, and learn more about the impactful work of MBKCares and Black Men Heal. \nRegistered participants 16 years of age or older will have the opportunity to ride an Indego Electric. A guardian or parent must accompany all minors. SUMMARY:September Pedal for Peace Group Ride
DESCRIPTION:Join the Indego\, 22nd Philadelphia Police District\, Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia\, Town Watch Integrated Services\, and the Better Bike Share Partnership for a Pedal for Peace Group Ride. This ride will be promoting public safety in the community and highlighting local community hubs and safe spaces in the 22nd PPD District (North Philly). This ride will be escorted by the Philadelphia Police Department to help yield traffic during the ride. This will be a 5 to 7-mile ride at a slow pace. The group ride is open to all skill levels of cyclists and will include 15-30 bicyclists riding in solidarity for peace in the streets of Philly. \nRegistered participants 16 years of age or older will have the opportunity to ride an Indego Electric. A guardian or parent must accompany all minors. No exceptions. Every ride is led by a trained staff member of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and all participants are expected to follow the Rules of the Road. \n      -This ride will be beginner-friendly and at a leisurely pace \n      -Free Helmets will be provided for registered Indego riders \n      -Free Snacks\, Water\, and Swag items will be provided \n      -You must be 14 to ride an Indego Bike and 16 or older to ride an Indego E-Bike \n      -All registered participants must confidently demonstrate how to ride a bicycle for this group ride.  \nPlease let the ride leaders know about any medical conditions. Indego riders should plan to stay with the group for the entire ride. Explore the physical remains of what is now a hidden trolley network including massive stone tunnels and bridge abutments along this loop hike. \nMore about the Trolley Trail: Fairmount Park Conservancy\, along with partners at Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and the Belmont Plateau Trails Alliance\, have been working to develop the Trolley Trail – a scenic multi-purpose trail that loosely follows the path of the former Fairmount Park Trolley.
