SUMMARY:Mental Health Group Ride with MBKCares & Black Men Heal
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a group ride with My Brother’s Keeper Cares (MBKCares) and Black Men Heal\, two community-based nonprofits committed to mental health and healing. MBKCares\, based in Southwest Philadelphia\, supports youth and families impacted by mental health challenges\, trauma\, and suicide loss through education\, mentorship\, and creative expression. Black Men Heal is dedicated to providing mental health access\, education\, and advocacy for men of color\, with a mission to eliminate the stigma around therapy and support emotional wellness in the community. \nThe ride will be slow-paced ride beginning and ending at the Indego Station on N. 33rd St. and Reservoir Dr. in Strawberry Mansion. Together\, we’ll explore trails\, the historic mansions of East Fairmount Park\, and The Discovery Center. \nThis ride is designed to reduce stress\, build connections\, and promote mental wellness in a supportive and welcoming space. Come join us\, connect with like-minded people\, and learn more about the impactful work of MBKCares and Black Men Heal. \nRegistered participants 16 years of age or older will have the opportunity to ride an Indego Electric. A guardian or parent must accompany all minors. SUMMARY:September Pedal for Peace Group Ride
DESCRIPTION:Join the Indego\, 22nd Philadelphia Police District\, Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia\, Town Watch Integrated Services\, and the Better Bike Share Partnership for a Pedal for Peace Group Ride. This ride will be promoting public safety in the community and highlighting local community hubs and safe spaces in the 22nd PPD District (North Philly). This ride will be escorted by the Philadelphia Police Department to help yield traffic during the ride. This will be a 5 to 7-mile ride at a slow pace. The group ride is open to all skill levels of cyclists and will include 15-30 bicyclists riding in solidarity for peace in the streets of Philly. \nRegistered participants 16 years of age or older will have the opportunity to ride an Indego Electric. SUMMARY:Beginner Friendly Group Ride: Cobbs Creek Trail
DESCRIPTION:Join Us! \nFall is here and this month\, the Better Bike Share Partnership (BBSP) will be hosting its Beginner-Friendly Bike Ride exploring the Cobbs Creek Trail and Mt. Moriah Cemetery. The beginner-friendly bike rides are great for bicyclists who have basic bicycling skills and want to ride on trails that are completely separated from cars. This is a great way to explore new trails\, green spaces\, and meet other riders.  \nThe Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia (BCGP) Education Team will guide riders on a 3.5 to 5.3-mile ride that is on a car free trail. The ride will begin and end at the Indego station at Cobbs Creek Pwy. & Florence Ave. and Indego Electric bikes will be provided for registered participants. Highlights of the route include the following:  \n     -Cobbs Creek Environmental Center \n     -Mount Moriah Cemetery \n     -Informational art installations about local species \n     -Vision Zero – Safe Systems Infrastructure  \nSnacks and water will be provided by the BCGP Staff. Free Helmets will also be provided and participants can keep the helmets after the ride (because safety is important for all bicyclists!). \nEvery ride is led by a trained staff member of the Bicycle Coalition and all participants are expected to follow the Rules of the Road. \n     -This ride will be beginner-friendly and at a leisurely pace\n     -Free Helmets will be provided for Indego riders\n     -Free Swag \n     -Free 30 day pass to ride Indego \n     -Must be 14 to ride an Indego Bike and 16 year old to ride a Indego e-bike \nPlease let the BCGP ride leaders know about any medical conditions. Activities include lion dances\, martial arts displays\, Chinese opera\, carnival games\, arts & crafts\, and the mooncake eating contest. \nChinatown was designated in 2023 as one of the Most Endangered Historic Places. The displacement and disruption that threaten historic neighborhoods across the U.S. are threatening our very own Chinatown’s existence. But\, united in collective action\, we can protect our cultural heritage and invest in future generations.

SUMMARY:Park after Dark: Moonwalk + Stargazing
DESCRIPTION:From their event page:  \nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy and astronomer/educator Buddy Muhler for a one-mile guided moonwalk and telescope observation.  \nWe’ll start by using the moonlight to guide us on a short hike along the Lemon Hill Rim Trail – a wooded trail that runs high above Kelly Drive and offers views of the Schuylkill River below. Learn a little about the history of the area as well as the nocturnal animals that call the forest home. \n*June\, July\, and September Special!* In June\, July\, and September\, we will be joined by the Academy of Natural Sciences. A naturalist from the museum’s education team will lead the hike portion of the event\, sharing their expertise on the flora\, fauna\, and geology of the area. \nNext\, we’ll turn our attention to the sky with a guided moon and planet/star observation\, depending on the month. Novice and experienced astronomers alike will be given insights and tips by experienced instructor Buddy Muhler. Each attendee will have the chance to travel close up to the moon’s surface by looking through Buddy’s high-powered telescope! Buddy will discuss the lunar cycles and point out interesting visible surface features such as dark gray mares (seas) and white reflective highlands. We’ll gaze at planets or stars and discuss other astronomical wonders of the night sky. \nIf you’re a lunar lunatic\, this is an evening not to miss! \nINSTRUCTOR BIO: Buddy Muhler is a passionate astronomer and science educator. He has over 15 years of experience operating telescopes and educating the public on astronomy\, first at The Franklin Institute and now in his current position with The Academy of Natural Sciences.
