SUMMARY:Trolley Trail Run
DESCRIPTION:From their event page:  \nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy and a rotating set of local run clubs (see schedule below) for a 4.5-mile trail run along West Fairmount Park’s historic Trolley Trail. Whether you’re training for an upcoming race\, looking to connect with other runners\, or just want to get to know the trail system better\, this run series provides the perfect opportunity. \nTrail runs will be led by a Fairmount Park Conservancy staff person\, in partnership with a local run club leaders (see schedule below). At a few points along the run\, we’ll stop and talk about the past and present of the Trolley Trail\, which roughly follows the route of the old Fairmount Park Trolley that operated from 1896-1946. We’ll even run through some of the physical remains of what is now a hidden trolley network. \nEach run will have multiple pace groups; however\, in order to finish before sunset\, runners should be able to consistently run for 4.5 miles on trails. While this run series is in partnership with local run clubs\, you do not need to be part of the run club to attend. Each event will be a mix of runners from that club and runners from the general public. Join for one run or for all four!

SUMMARY:Relics and Ruins: West Park
DESCRIPTION:From their event page:  \nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy’s John Sigmund\, Director of Partnerships and Sponsorships and park history enthusiast\, for a three-mile guided hike to explore the relics and ruins of Fairmount Park. \nAs one of America’s oldest urban parks\, Fairmount Park has accumulated many layers of history – sometimes literally! A closer exploration of the landscape reveals the ruins of abandoned infrastructure and buildings that go back to the beginnings of the 178-year-old park system and occasionally\, even further. Most of the year\, nature cloaks these hidden treasures in dense growth\, but the bare woods of winter provide the perfect time to go off the beaten path. \nIf you’re fascinated by Philly history and discovering hidden treasures of the park’s past\, this hike is not to be missed! \nThis is the event page for the March 21 West Park hike; however\, there will also be an East Park hike on March 7 (more info here). Sign up for one date or for both! \nPlease note\, this hike will have some challenging sections that require agility. Since we will occasionally venture off trail\, you are encouraged to wear sturdy hiking boots and rugged outerwear that can withstand scrapes from sharp sticks and branches (please\, no fashion or formal wear! :)). \nEstimated distance: about three miles\nLevel: moderate\nTerrain: mainly hilly trails

Brief orientation sessions will take place at the top of the hour from 10 am-1 pm. Please wear work shoes or boots and long sleeves. Gloves and safety equipment will be provided.
