SUMMARY:Community Paddle Boating at FDR Park
DESCRIPTION:From their event page:  \nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy and Independence Seaport Museum for free paddle boating at FDR Park on select dates in the spring\, summer\, and fall! \nPaddle boats are an easy and safe way for families and people of all ages to explore Edgewood Lake\, just behind the FDR Park Boathouse. As you pedal around\, use the kid-friendly binoculars provided to spot turtles\, ducks\, blooming flowers\, and maybe even a great blue heron – the long-legged shorebird the boats are shaped after. \nThis event is geared toward our FDR Park neighbors. \nChildren must be able to fit into a life jacket (30+ pounds) in order to participate. Waivers will be provided and must be signed before participating. All minors must have an adult available to sign for them. There is no place to store belongings while out on the water\, so we recommend bringing a small bag/waterproof case to store them in. We suggest having at least two people on each boat to balance pedaling; boats cannot hold more than four people.

SUMMARY:Park after Dark: Moonwalk + Stargazing
DESCRIPTION:From their event page: \nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy and astronomer/educator Buddy Muhler for a 1.5-mile guided moonwalk and telescope observation in West Fairmount Park. \nWe’ll start by using the moonlight to guide us on a hike of the historic Trolley Trail\, which roughly follows the route of the old Fairmount Park Trolley that operated from 1896-1946. Learn a little about the history of the trail and the nocturnal animals that call the park home. \nNext\, we’ll turn our attention to the sky with a guided moon and planet observation. Novice and experienced astronomers alike will be given insights and tips by experienced instructor Buddy Muhler. Each attendee will have the chance to travel close up to the moon’s surface by looking through Buddy’s high-powered telescope! Buddy will discuss the lunar cycles and point out interesting visible surface features such as dark gray mares (seas) and white reflective highlands. We’ll gaze at planets or stars and discuss other astronomical wonders of the night sky. \nIf you’re a lunar lunatic\, this is an evening not to miss!

SUMMARY:Discovery Day: City Nature Challenge and Ziplining
DESCRIPTION:Join Audubon Mid-Atlantic as we document the many organisms that call Discovery Center their home. The City Nature Challenge is an international effort for people to find and log plants and wildlife in cities. It’s an annual four-day global bioblitz at the end of April\, where cities collaborate to see what can be accomplished when we all work toward a common goal. Check in throughout the day to see live results on our TV. \nWe’ll start the day with Nature Journaling from 10-11am. Learn how to tie together creativity with scientific effort as we look for early-spring plants\, birds and other organisms. Journals and pencils will be provided\, but feel free to bring your own. We’ll also start with an iNaturalist app tutorial\, so you’re ready to trek through the trails. Let’s celebrate biodiversity\, and continue celebrating Earth Day! Registration for City Nature Challenge is not needed\, but registration for Nature Journaling from 10-11am is required. \nCome Zipline with Philadelphia Outward Bound School! Registration is first come-first serve. More information coming soon!
