SUMMARY:January Day of Action: Transit Leadership Training
DESCRIPTION:From their event page:  \nDo you want to take action for better transit in Philly in 2026? \nJoin Transit Forward Philadelphia for a transit leadership training. You’ll learn how you can rally your community to make transit more affordable\, safer\, accessible\, and fully funded. \nThe training has 3 tracks to choose from: \n🚆 Canvassing Leaders: Learn how you can mobilize riders at your local transit stop and at community events in your neighborhood. This organizing will power our campaigns for passing a Transit Access Fund in Philly and including transit funding in the 2026 state budget in Harrisburg. At this training\, we’ll create a citywide calendar of ways that transit advocates can take action this year. \n🚌 Communication Leaders: Learn to share your transit story and amplify the voices of transit riders in your community. This team will work together to create social media content\, write letters to the editor\, and organize public testimony when transit legislation comes up at City Hall and in Harrisburg. \n🚋 Special Project Leaders: This session will share ways you can get involved with big events coming up in 2026 like transit equity day\, our annual transit advocacy day in Harrisburg\, and events that bring our community together like the Peoplehood parade\, Kensington Derby\, and more. We welcome your ideas for creative ways to build the tranist movement in Philly.\n \nAgenda \n5:30pm – 5:45pm – Grab food\, mix and mingle\n5:45am – 6:00pm – Intro and welcome to TFP’s campaigns this year\n6:00pm – 7:00 pm – Breakout into training groups\n7:00pm – Wrap up and Next Steps \nAll are welcome to join. Please contact stephen@transitforwardphilly.org with any questions or if there are ways we can make this event more accessible for you to participate.

SUMMARY:Park after Dark: Moonwalk + Stargazing
DESCRIPTION:From their event page:  \nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy and astronomer/educator Buddy Muhler for a one-mile guided moonwalk and telescope observation.  \nWe’ll start by using the moonlight to guide us on a short hike along the Lemon Hill Rim Trail – a wooded trail that runs high above Kelly Drive and offers views of the Schuylkill River below. Learn a little about the history of the area as well as the nocturnal animals that call the forest home. \nNext\, we’ll turn our attention to the sky with a guided moon and planet/star observation\, depending on the month. Novice and experienced astronomers alike will be given insights and tips by experienced instructor Buddy Muhler. Each attendee will have the chance to travel close up to the moon’s surface by looking through Buddy’s high-powered telescope! Buddy will discuss the lunar cycles and point out interesting visible surface features such as dark gray mares (seas) and white reflective highlands. We’ll gaze at planets or stars and discuss other astronomical wonders of the night sky. \nIf you’re a lunar lunatic\, this is an evening not to miss!

SUMMARY:Trolley Trail Hike
DESCRIPTION:From their event page:  \nJoin Fairmount Park Conservancy for a guided 4-mile hike to learn about the Trolley Trail’s fascinating past and present. The Fairmount Park Trolley operated in East and West Park from 1896-1946\, providing a reliable and enjoyable means of accessing park amenities. Explore the physical remains of what is now a hidden trolley network including massive stone tunnels and bridge abutments along this loop hike. \nMore about the Trolley Trail: Fairmount Park Conservancy\, along with partners at Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and the Belmont Plateau Trails Alliance\, have been working to develop the Trolley Trail – a scenic multi-purpose trail that loosely follows the path of the former Fairmount Park Trolley. New gateways\, trail signage\, and bike racks were recently added and a ribbon cutting was held in November 2023. Read more here.

SUMMARY:Philly Bike Train
DESCRIPTION:The Philly Bike Train rolls every Wednesday\, opposite Wednesday Night Rides. Join a “bike bus” for commuters. A bike bus is an organized group ride to work\, school\, or any common destination. We leave at set times\, and you can join at the start or hop on anywhere along the way — just like a regular bus or\, in our case\, a train! Riding together makes commuting more fun\, social\, and safe. \nUsing the Bike Ride Tracker\, commuters can also share when and where they’d like to ride\, leaders create routes from that info\, and when the “train” rolls out\, leaders broadcast their location so others can catch the ride as it passes.
