Indego Special Service, September 25th -27th

image

(Updated 9/22)

Have you heard the news? The Pope is coming to Philly!
From September 25th – 27th there will be a variety of
transportation impacts, and Indego will be making special accommodations of our
own. Many streets will allow only limited traffic, or will be closed to motor
vehicles altogether. Limited street access for cars means easier and safer street
access for bikes and pedestrians. Meaning: There’s no better time to hop on an
Indego bike and see the city from the saddle!

In partnership with The City of Philadelphia, and the
Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities, Indego is thrilled to announce
that bike share will be open and available with special corral service at some
stations. Other stations must be closed beginning the evening of September 24th.
Exact times for corral service are listed below.

Learn To Ride Series: Getting More People On Bikes

image

For lots of people, getting an Indego membership is step one on the journey to becoming a Philadelphia bicyclist. But for some, there’s another step that comes first: learning how to ride a bike!

For the past 5 weeks, brave Philadelphians of all ages have been learning to ride a bike at Indego’s ‘Learn to Ride’ series held inside of The Oval. The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia staff and volunteers were on hand to teach riders urban biking basics and to address all questions and concerns related to biking in the City.

Katie Monroe, the Better Bike Share Outreach Manager, says that offering these classes was a “no brainer,” because “so many adults in Philadelphia are excited about biking and looking for ways to learn how to ride.

“Our Learn to Ride classes were selling out instantly. It was amazing to see!”

Riders met staff inside of The Oval and were greeted with bikes, helmets and words of encouragement. Overall, 40+ attendees successfully learned how to ride a bike this summer! Best of luck to these new riders as they hit the streets and enjoy all Philadelphia has to offer on two wheels.

Huge thank you to The Oval for hosting these classes in their space. Looking to learn to ride? While this summer series is over, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia offers monthly Learn to Ride classes at Lloyd Hall. Check their calendar for upcoming classes.

The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia does outreach and education on behalf of Indego, and their work is made possible by the Better Bike Share Partnership, an initiative funded by the JPB Foundation, which seeks to create a socially equitable and replicable bike share model for Philadelphia and beyond.

Station Update: Philadelphia Museum of Art station will be temporarily removed

We know you’re crazy in love with the Philadelphia Museum of Art station and we are too! But we just got word that we need to remove it in order for the Made In America Festival to start setting up for next weekend.

This station will be unavailable beginning at 6AM tomorrow, until further notice. We will announce on our social media channels, via email and our website when it’s back up and running again.

There are plenty of stations nearby that you can use until then, including 23rd & Fairmount, 20th & Fairmount, the Rodin Museum, Franklin Institute, and the Free Library of Philadelphia.

Always check our online station map or the BCycleNow app for bike and dock availability!

Going to the MIA Festival? Help us keep the system balanced by riding Indego to the following stations: Municipal Services Building Plaza, 20th & Fairmount, 23rd & Fairmount or 18th & JFK.
