Each month, The Better Bike Share Partnership (BBSP) hosts a themed group ride that is intended to familiarize Philadelphians with Indego and introduce folks to different resources all over the city. June is recognized nationally as Pride Month and is a time to make the LGBTQ+ voices in our community heard, respected, and to recognize the impact LGBT+ people have had in the world. This Pride Month, Indego released a new, specially wrapped bike called the Philly Pride Bike, which made its debut at the Pride Parade in Philadelphia on June 9th.
We sat down with Alison Cohen, CEO of Bicycle Transit Systems, and Amber Hikes, the Executive Director of Philadelphia’s Office of LGBT Affairs to discuss the importance of visibility and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community in the bike share industry and in Philadelphia.

At the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, we are proud to hold Urban Riding Basics classes throughout the year in order to further our mission of making biking fun and safe for everyone. Our mantra for these classes is “ride nice” and our staff does a great job delivering all the information you need to feel safe while taking on the city streets. The BCGP team is excited to share a recap of our Urban Riding Basics class held last month at The Free Library of South Philadelphia.

Building relationships and ensuring that bike share is accessible and equitable throughout communities in Philadelphia is one of the goals of Indego. The Indego Community Ambassador program connects non-profit organizations, whose work engages underserved communities, with Indego bike share. Using Indego as a tool, the Ambassadors work with the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia to educate their communities on bike safety, promote healthy choices, and connect with resources in their neighborhoods.
Empowerment is the theme for this year’s Ambassador Season! As the Ambassadors team assembled, we discovered that each group incorporated empowerment as part of their mission statement. Indego is excited to introduce you to the seven organizations that make up this season’s Community Ambassador program!
